Brawn Hints at Bottas Being Responsible For Huge F1 Crash With Russell at Imola

This past weekend at Imola saw a horrible crash between George Russell and Valtteri Bottas. Russell was chasing down the Mercedes driver but didn’t expect Bottas to make a sudden move. It resulted in them crashing, putting an end to their race. Ross Brawn, managing director of F1, has stated the incident will be looked into.
The Williams driver was trying to take 9th place from Bottas, Russell pushed the limits too hard, which saw take out the Mercedes. Fortunately, both Russell and Bottas came out of the accident unhurt.

Russell feels he wasn’t at fault since he had the faster car and DRS was available. However, Bottas concurs and feels George is to be blamed for causing the crash.
Brawn said, “There will no doubt be an intense post-mortem of the accident between Valtteri Bottas and George Russell. The positive thing is that both drivers escaped unhurt and the cars held up on impact to show how far we’ve come regarding the safety standards.”

Imola is quite a narrow track so there’s not much space. When you add wet grass either side from the rain, it becomes very, very tricky. I’m sure both drivers will analyse the incident and learn from it but it did look like Valtteri drifted across and left George nowhere to go,” Bottas concluded.
Bottas doesn’t think he was at fault for the accident
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix saw a horrible crash between Bottas and Russell as they were fighting for position. In a blink of an eye, both were in the gravel with their cars totally wrecked.

As quoted by The Race, Bottas stated, “No, I don’t see it that way. I didn’t make any sudden moves. I think it’s quite clear from his onboard as well, and [he was] always left the space.”
So no from my side it was clean, and of course I’m defending, I’m not going to make any room for him. But also when I race I have respect. I see it differently,” he concluded.

Bottas didn’t bring any points for Mercedes this weekend at Imola, but the Finn hopes to bounce back for the next race at Portugal. He will look to make sure there is enough room so that such an accident doesn’t repeat itself.
