One is not supposed to throw punches at someone else when their own show has been a flop. Lewis Hamilton cheekily mocked his ex-team as McLaren gets ready to go through a transition. However, the seven-time world champion’s team isn’t doing that well either, with Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton criticizing the zeropod concept. What was it that the Brit said about his McLaren and why did he highlight Mercedes’ eight titles?

Both McLaren and Mercedes have underperformed on the promise made by them the previous year. McLaren was supposed to close the gap to the front-runners but dropped to the back of the field. Mercedes was expected to challenge Red Bull for the title but looks like the 3rd or 4th best team at the moment. Both teams have announced changes to meet their promises. Mercedes has a new concept that is expected to arrive in time for the Emilia Romagna GP, whereas McLaren has arranged a major restructuring of engineers.

Lewis Hamilton was recently asked whether Mercedes are also thinking of a major revamp like the British team. The Briton denied the possibility of the silver arrows being in a similar position to the Papaya team.

While answering the question, the seven-time world champion also took a jab at his team suggesting the fact that the German team has won eight titles in the last ten years whereas Mclaren has none. The 38-year-old further added that Mercedes is a title-winning team and has got amazing people working with them.

According to Motorsportweek.com, Lewis Hamilton said ” Well, you can’t compare us to McLaren, we’ve won eight world titles in the last ten years.” Further adding, “We’re still a World Championship-winning team, we’ve got amazing people who have been with us on that journey. We always need to hold ourselves accountable, each and every single one of us.”

With the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix this year, there’s a gap of about a month between the Australian GP and the Azerbaijan GP. All the team will like to capitalize on this time with hopes of improving the car. McLaren is believed to bring a huge upgrade to Baku. However, Lewis Hamilton is not so keen on the break and has other views about it.

The seven-time world champion is not a fan of the huge gap between races. When asked about it, Hamilton replied that he was in a good zone at the moment and did not need a mental break. The F1 drivers need to be fully focused and a break like this can sometimes have a detrimental effect on the focus. However, the 38-year-old does agree that the break will be beneficial for the team and that they can focus on the upgrades.

According to Motorsportweek.com, Lewis Hamilton said, “Honestly, I don’t think I need a mental break at the moment, I feel pretty good. Particularly as our August is usually that time where you get that downtime.”
