“Can’t Say I’m Riding Valtteri Bottas”: Wife Geri Left Christian Horner Embarrassed With Hilarious Reference

Red Bull has been winning everything this season, so Team Principal Christian Horner is having the time of his life. From breaking records on track to giving headline-worthy quotes off it, he is the man of the moment. Recently, he shared a hilarious anecdote where his wife Geri Halliwell unknowingly encouraged a spicy quote involving Valtteri Bottas‘ name.
Back in 2021, the Mercedes pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Bottas was a menace to Red Bull. As you might have seen in Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’, Horner did take his work home with him. The docu-series always had an episode where the Horner couple was shown discussing the active-F1 season’s performance. So Hamilton, Bottas, Max Verstappen, and Sergio Perez were names that often made their way into their conversations. Horner lately has clarified one of the funnier interactions with his wife that was shot by the Netflix crew on ESPN’s Unlapped podcast.

Horner said, “My wife made a reference, we were talking about the personalities of the horses that we were riding, and she said: ‘Your horse is a little bit of a Valtteri.’ And I said: Darling, you cannot say that I’m riding Bottas!” In pointing out the not-so-obvious sexual innuendo, the Briton sure gave us something to laugh about.
Now, no one knows what Mrs. Horner meant when she likened the horse that her husband was riding to Bottas. But comparing horses to drivers seems to be a common occurrence in the Horner household.

The Horner family lives in a picturesque countryside farmhouse in Oxfordshire. Often, the people that have such lavish countryside houses also have animals that stay in the stables. So does Horner. In season 4 of DTS which documented the 2021 season, Geri Horner commented on the behavior and psychology of horses and that was where the connection originated.
Geri prompted “Horses do want to be told what to do. They want you to be in charge. They can feel it.” And Christian Horner was quick to draw an analogy between managing horses and managing drivers. He replied, “A bit like racing drivers. If you’re nervous, they’re nervous. If you’re in control, they’re in control.”
