Christian Horner is a happy man. And why shouldn’t he be? His team and Max Verstappen are on the verge of winning the two championships.

Calling Red Bull’s 2022 season ‘dominant’ would be an understatement, and Christian Horner looks to be in no mood to let it go. This dominance marks the end of an era for Mercedes. An era where Horner suffered for 8 long years. And now he seems ready for payback!

Christian Horner desires to rule F1 for long

Mercedes has dominated the realm of Formula 1 for a very long time now. Red Bull has only played the second fiddle in the recent past. Now that it’s his own team that is about to end this era of dominance, the Red Bull Team principal, Christian Horner, wants Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, to have a taste of his own medicine.

In an interview with Sky F1, Horner laughingly said, “I can only wish to inflict that amount of pain on Toto over the next eight years”.

He was, however, quick to admit, “It is very unlikely”.

Christian Horner and Toto Wolff share a relationship that can best be described as “complicated”. This interview just provides more weight to that. But who is to know, going by the season so far, it may well be a start of an era for Red Bull.

Red Bull’s season and the records up for grabs

Red Bull is almost certain of winning the Constructors’ Championship and Max Verstappen could be as close as one race to taking the Drivers’ Championship home. He has won 11 GPs so far this season out of 16.

He will look to break Schumacher and Vettel’s joint record of 13 wins in a season.

That, however, is not the only record up for grabs. Sebastian Vettel holds the record for the longest streak of race wins. A whopping 9 consecutive wins.

Max is on a 5 win streak after adding the feather of the Italian Grand Prix to his cap. While the record for most wins looks too easy for him, given that he managed a win from a starting position of P14, a 9 win streak won’t come easy. This is because the very next race is at Marina Bay Circuit (Singapore), a track that is known to humble teams that boast of having great straight line speeds.

And as things stand, RB-18’s straight-line speed is arguably what Red Bull is thriving on. It is going to be a challenge that Verstappen will surely cherish.

While the two championship winners may be obvious at this point, there’s still a lot to follow for the remaining races.
