Daniel Ricciardo “Anticipating Something Capable” From Mercedes Powered McLaren F1 Car

Daniel Ricciardo is moving to McLaren this season. Red Bull signed him in 2014 and he later moved to Renault for two years starting in 2019. In both the teams, the Australian has driven a Renault-powered engine.
After six years, the Honey Badger will drive a Mercedes-powered car as McLaren reunites with the Brackley squad this season. In a recent interview, Ricciardo admitted that he is looking forward to his new experience.
“I drove with a Renault in the back of my race car since this hybrid era, so I’m looking forward to experiencing something new again.”

“I think until I get on track, it’s hard to really know, but obviously, they’ve (Mercedes) had a lot of success. So I am anticipating something capable, of course,” said the Australian driver.

“I think off track for sure, we’ll always be seen to be having a good time. But I do believe that the competition on track will be will be good, it will be fierce and more importantly, I think driving the team forward,” he explained.

The team recorded their best finish last season since 2012. They snatched the Top-3 finish from the Racing Point at the 2020 season finale. They have the momentum, and their reunited partnership with Mercedes could help them deliver a similar result this season.

However, the mid-field battle will be much more fierce this season. The newly rebranded Alpine F1 and Aston Martin along with a motivated Ferrari will not make the Top-3 fight more intense.
