When a driver takes control of his strategy, he takes control of his race. Ferreri’s poor management snatched the Championship out of Charles Leclerc’s hand last year. A Former World Champion has urged the Monegasque to take control over what he wants and stop allowing Ferrari to push him around. Leclerc has been asked to take inspiration from fellow drivers and his teammate. Who is this former champion and what exactly does Leclerc need to take control over?

Charles Leclerc possibly could’ve won the 2022 driver’s title had it not been for Ferrari’s strategy and reliability issue. While a driver cannot do much in case of reliability issues, strategy calls can be suggested and made by the drivers. The decision to double stack in Monaco behind Carlos Sainz and then the blunder of medium to hard tire strategy in Hungary are prime examples of Ferrari messing up. This season so far has been a blunder itself, with Leclerc retiring from 2 out of 3 races and only having 6 points to his name.

Charles Leclerc needs to become a bit more proactive in his car if wants to have a chance at winning the championship. The Monegasque needs to start asserting his preference and take charge of his strategy. Drivers like Max Verstappen and George Russell are great at asserting their preferences and getting what they want. Fernando Alonso is a master at it with incredible presence of mind and directs his race while driving.

According to Motorsport.com, Damon Hill said “He [Charles Leclerc] wasn’t asked about his preference, and that wrong strategy made him at a disadvantage with his teammate, That’s why Max is so strong. I’ve heard similar things about George Russell about it, even Carlos Sainz at Ferrari. Pilots like Fernando Alonso are directing the team through the cockpit. If a team isn’t bothered by the strategy either way, then it’s possible to get what you want, but you need to think fast,”

Charles Leclerc needs to think fast to get what he really wants. He cannot allow the Ferrari strategist to push him around and needs to assert dominance over his choices. Ferrari has been struggling to keep up with Mercedes and Aston Martin. As a result, a meeting was held at the Ferrari base in Maranello.

Despite the awful start to the season, Charles Leclerc was adamant that everyone on the team was fully positive at the meeting. The Monegasque expressed that the whole team is pushing in the same direction, which is important. Leclerc then addressed rumors of problems behind the scenes and suggested that 90% of the rumors are wrong and baseless. Charles does not want to waste his energy trying to find where the rumors came from and is busy focusing on the team.

According to express.co.uk, Charles Leclerc said “Everyone is fully on it and fully positive still, which is great. We all need to push in the same direction as I said this is the most important. There have been loads of rumors around the team – which, for once, 90 percent of them were completely unfounded. I don’t know from where it is coming from and to be honest I don’t want to even spend any energy on trying to find where it’s coming from. We just need to be on it and focus on ourselves.”
