Sainz would be an excellent replacement for Vettel’s seat for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, he’s quick to adapt. Sainz knows what’s it like to drive for various teams with differing expectations. Secondly, he’s at that stage in his career where he’s experienced but not old. At 25, the Spaniard’s best in F1 is still to come.
Current F1 commentator and pundit Martin Brundle echoed these words.
Speaking to Express Sport, Brundle said:

“Yeah, if he’s out of contract. I’ve always championed Carlos and to McLaren when they weren’t sure about taking him.
“I think he’s got his dad’s kind of sporting winning mentality – a double World Rally Champion, of course, his dad. I think you’ve got Daniel Ricciardo, possibly out there [as an option for Ferrari] as well.”
Brundle also referenced Sainz’s brilliant performances while driving for Toro Rosso. The Spaniard was teammates with rising star Max Verstappen but didn’t back down from the Dutchman. Sainz was on course to ultimately join Red bull but sadly lost out to the Dutchman.

“But I think Sainz was very close to Verstappen when they were at Toro Rosso. It got political. It got dad and lad against each other from both sides of the garage and they went with Verstappen, which I think you would do all day long. But I think Carlos was a really good match for him.”
With McLaren finally making some progress and getting Mercedes power from 2021, Sainz would be making a wise decision in sticking with the team.
