In 20 races in the season so far, Fernando Alonso has suffered the same fate five times already. The Spaniard has been unable to see the chequered flag in his Alpine A522. Despite the surprise pace, the unreliability has been a frustrating aspect for Alonso. However, the Spaniard has made peace with it and welcomes a “new chapter”.

The new chapter, of course, is forthcoming with his move to Aston Martin from the 2023 season onwards. A move he is looking forward to as the Mexican GP ended in frustration and six laps early for the Spaniard. Another race not going according to “El Plan”.

In the Mexican GP post-race interview, Alonso shared his outlook on the future while communicating his frustration. “Once more, car 14 stops before the chequered flag. Yeah, we lost, now I think it’s around 70 points the deficit but yeah. It’s pointless to talk about this once more, so let’s see,” said the Alpine man.

“Only two races to go and then a new chapter,” concluded the soon-to-be Aston Martin man.

Alonso could’ve suffered more heartbreak in the previous race as well at the Circuit of The Americas. However, after contesting the race director’s decision, the Spaniard was reinstated at P7. A brilliant display that he felt was one of the best races of his season.

The Mexican GP could’ve followed the same storyline. Although, it wasn’t meant to be.

Until lap 65, when Alonso’s A522 conked out, the Spaniard was enjoying his race. The pace was good and Alonso was in the lead until car 14 stopped.

“I think Austin and Mexico has been the best races in my personal point of view. Pace-wise, I was like 20 seconds or something like that ahead of the McLarens and my teammate. So yeah, I felt fast today but yeah, once again car 14 stops,” expressed Alonso.
