Carlos Sainz Sabotages Lackluster Home Race to Advocate Michael Schumacher’s Wonderful Origin

You’ve heard of bizarre ideas? This one’s straight from a fast-paced F1 mind! Carlos Sainz is lighting up chats off the grid with an amusing yet intriguing proposition: An annual F1 driver race-off. The venue? A legendary circuit. The cars? Formula 3! Ready, set, vroom? But wait, before you think this is a backyard race, no! Sorry to break it to you, but this time, Imola or his home race Barcelona is not on Sainz’s calendar.
On the same note, everyone’s got an opinion on the best driver as well. But between the roaring engines and flashy sponsors, can one really tell who’s the best driver and who’s just riding the best car? Sainz dropped this golden nugget during a laid-back chat on the P1 podcast with Matt & Tommy, suggesting that perhaps it’s the car that’s been stealing the limelight from the drivers. Carlos also cited his home race in Spain does produce a predictable, losing the element of suspense.

“I think once a year we should all go to Macau and race in F3, [have] 20 F1 drivers over there,” Sainz candidly suggested (and we’re all excited, aren’t we?). “I think it’s different in Macau. In Macau there might be more differences [among drivers]. But on a normal track, let’s say Barcelona for example, in normal dry conditions, with six sets of new soft tires each as we have always done, I don’t think there is more than half a second between all of us” added Sainz.
So, the venue? Macau? Oh, the Guia Circuit! A place where nerves are tested, legends are made, and a driver can score those sweet, sweet five Super Licence points. If you’re wondering about the craze around the Macau Grand Prix, think of it as the Hogwarts of racing circuits. Success here can cast a spell on your junior racing career like no other! Fancy seeing a few big names who’ve passed this ultimate test? Senna, Coulthard, and the Schumacher duo – Ralf and Michael – have all held the trophy high at Macau. Michael’s win, if you remember, had a little drama featuring future F1 rival Mika Hakkinen. Memories!
But while the Spaniard has visions of F1 champions battling it out in Macau, closer to home, it seems there’s another race off the tracks that’s capturing everyone’s attention.

Ferrari’s very own Carlos Sainz, often seen playing a melodious tune as Charles Leclerc’s second fiddle, has had quite a ride. From the tunes of criticism to bouncing back with the rhythm of a champ, it’s been a rollercoaster for the Spaniard.
With a whopping $12 million singing in his pocket annually, Sainz seemed set to stay with Ferrari until the end of 2024. But hold your prancing horses! The man himself hints at some glitches during his off-beat days. An interview with AS had him crooning about the time when, apparently, critics got their lyrics all wrong. “I wasn’t so bad when I was criticized, nor am I so good now,” he remarked. Now, the rumor mill is churning its own tunes with whispers of Sainz potentially hopping onto Audi’s bandwagon in 2026. Could this be the chorus to Sainz Sr.’s frustrations with Fred Vasseur’s ensemble?
