“I Have a Helmet Ready” – Romain Grosjean Prepared to Take up Toto Wolff on His Mercedes F1 Offer

Romain Grosjean’s Bahrain accident is one the F1 fans will never forget soon. During the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean was involved in a terrifying accident at the exit of turn three. The 35-year-old’s Haas crashed into the barriers and exploded into flames on impact. Extraordinarily, he got out of the massive fire but suffered burns on his hands.
The incident shocked the world, but the introduction of the halo in an F1 car proved to be a lifesaver. Grosjean’s decision to leave Haas after the 2020 season was planned well before the race in Bahrain. But since he had to leave the sport immediacy after the crash, The French driver did not get a proper farewell in Formula 1. However, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff promised him a testing session with Mercedes after the incident.
Mercedes had to cancel the scheduled test drive for Grosjean during the 2021 French Grand Prix because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The current Indy Car driver opened up on this unique opportunity with the Mercedes F1 team.

Toto Wolff confirms Romain Grosjean will receive his farewell
After a long spell in Formula 1, Grosjean is currently driving with Andretti Autosport in the IndyCar championship. Because of his commitments in IndyCar, the Frenchman could not find time to return and test for Mercedes. However, the former Haas driver displayed his Mercedes helmet in a YouTube video.
He said, “Everyone asks me about the Mercedes test. Here is the helmet. The test has not yet been, but I have a helmet ready for it,” stated Grosjean, who is all prepared for his test drive with Mercedes.

The onus lies on Toto Wolff now, and the Austrian confirmed Grosjean will have the opportunity in the near future. He conveyed, “The test will certainly happen. We have promised. We will see how and what, but it will continue. If I give my word, I will keep it.”
Grosjean also revealed that he sent a message to Wolff after the controversial race in Abu Dhabi last year. As per their conversation, the 35-year-old still has the offer on the table.
He added, “There were a few things that bugged it last year. This year I can’t be at the French Grand Prix due to an IndyCar race in Iowa. But Mercedes is definitely still in it. I’m looking forward to it, even if my neck is going to take a hard time.”
