Jean Todt’s Emotional Final Speech as FIA President Shows His Affection for Michael Schumacher

Jean Todt has retired from the post of President of the FIA. The Frenchman, who was elected as the President in 2009, has left the position after twelve excellent years. In his farewell speech, Todt fought back his tears and stated that he was missing 7-time world champion and friend Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher and Todt were a part of the core group that brought back Ferrari to the top of the sport. Both Todt and Michael, along with Ross Brawn, were instrumental in the Italian team winning six consecutive Constructors’ championships from 1999 to 2004.

Jean Todt reveals his love for Michael Schumacher
As reported by Motorsport-total, the Frenchman told an endearing story about the time when he was elected. He also spoke about his journey and time as the FIA President.
“I’m missing Michael tonight. He will always be in my heart. We built so much together. We suffered together, and that made us stronger.” said Todt.

In 2009, when he became the FIA President, he could bring three companions with him, so he chose,” “My wife, Michael, and my son. This is something I will never forget.” said the departing FIA President.

Todt mentioned that he was quite happy that his time as FIA President was over. “I’ve been 12 years. It’s a long time. I mean, doing the job the way I did it, it’s demanding.
I think it’s very good that the FIA will get fresh blood, fresh team. Amongst the legacy I leave, I leave an amazing team and the team is able to continue to deliver the job with the new elected team. As a legacy, I am leaving a great team that is able to do the work under new leadership. I still have the same passion. I love motorsport. And I will continue to pursue it,” said Todt in his departing statement.

In his time as FIA President, Jean oversaw some major rule changes and brought in the new turbo-hybrid era. He was also influential in bringing the Halo for the safety of the drivers. It will be interesting to see how the new era in F1 plays out, with so many changes in line.
