It looks like normalcy in Formula One may be restored. After struggling for the first two days in Pre-season testing in Barcelona, Mercedes came back strong on the final day. Lewis Hamilton scored the fastest time of 2022 testing in the dying moments of the last day to lead his teammate George Russell to a 1-2.

But despite topping the charts at the end of the testing, it has not been smooth sailing for the German team. Hamilton mentioned that they have encountered a few issues during the sessions.

I can say that these few days have been quite interesting: Lewis Hamilton

As reported by Motorsport-Turkey, the 7-time world champion mention that the 2022 cars are very different from their previous iterations. The new cars are heavier and the new 18-ich tires work differently too than in previous years.

“I can say that these few days have been quite interesting. It wasn’t the easiest or the smoothest, and we are facing some hurdles that we have to overcome. Of course, you always want to do more laps, but I’m happy with my lap today. I think I did about 100 laps, which is not bad for half a day,” said Lewis.

“Driving these new cars is very different from previous years, just like the tires. But we continue on our schedule. The whole team did a great job during the week. The guys at the factory worked so hard that we collected a lot of data in those three days and now we’re going to get to work,” said the Mercedes driver.

The team had previously claimed that currently they are behind Ferrari and McLaren. But Mercedes have shown that they have a reliable car for the 2022 season and the pace is consistent as well.

Maybe both Mercedes and Hamilton may turn up to the official pre-season test in Bahrain more confident about their chances. But it is certainly interesting to hear Hamilton’s comments on his experience with the 2022 car so far.
