Lewis Hamilton Given Painful Reality Check as Former Mercedes Teammate Nips Hopes Of Retaining Majestic Home-Race Streak in 2022

Mercedes have struggled to nail down their car this season under the new regulations. This means that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have struggled massively at times. However, things have started to look up for the Brackley outfit after the podium in Montreal for Hamilton.

Yet, former driver and 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg has some harsh words for his ex-employers. The German in a recent interview with Sky Sports said, “They’re still too far away from performance of Ferrari and Red Bull. They’re still miles away.”

He also shut down his former teammate Lewis Hamilton’s chances to win his home GP at Silverstone. Rosberg said, “No they can’t win, no way,”.

Hamilton, who has 8 wins at his home GP, will have to pull a miracle out of somewhere to extend that record. His W-13 is not the quickest car on the grid. In addition to that, the form of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc makes it seem like an impossible task.

Nico Rosberg opens up on “extreme” Lewis Hamilton rivalry

The 2016 season saw two teammates and, more importantly, friends go hammer and tongs for the F1 title. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg duked it out in 2016, with Rosberg walking away with the spoils at the end. The German retired from the sport at the end of the season.

However, he recently opened up about his rivalry with Hamilton and how, at times, it went too far. Speaking to Sky F1, the former world champion said, “We made it extremely difficult,”.

He went on to shine a light on the rules they had in place to protect the team “It went to the point that we had a code of conduct, a paper, what we were allowed to do in a wheel-to-wheel battle, even penalties with a lot of zeros on them attached to that because there was no other way. “. Rosberg concluded by saying, “It just got too heated and too extreme”.

Although the two gave the fans a season to remember, it was their friendship that took a hit. Hamilton and Rosberg both continue to respect and speak highly of each other. However, the infamous Silver War of 2016 meant that their relationship was never the same.
