Being part of the Ferrari driver academy is a privilege for many drivers, as it is their road to Formula One. One of their most recognized drivers from their academy is Mick Schumacher, who won the F2 season last year.
However, this season tells a different story, as Schwartzman and Armstrong have failed to live up to the expectation of Binotto. He compares them to Schumacher Jr’s stint in F2 and hopes they achieve a similar result this year.

Even though, Shwartzman is third in the standings with 91 points under his belt. It is Armstrong who seems to be struggling as he finds himself in fourteenth place in the standings with just twenty-four points.

How is Schumacher doing this season?
Winning the F2 championship certainly hope to the German driver as he was ready to step into F1. However, this season has proven to be underwhelming for the Haas rookie, as his best result to date is a twelfth place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Even though he is having a poor season, Binotto considers him to be on the right path.
He said, “We held on at the beginning of the season – the goal for him should be not to put excessive pressure on himself, but to concentrate entirely on learning. The 2021 season must be viewed as an apprenticeship year for him.”

“And I see Mick on the right path, he is making progress. Of course, he made mistakes, but that’s part of the learning process. We can be satisfied with the interim results. It is important for Schumacher that he continues to develop and make steady progress in the second half,” he concluded.
With the second half of the season about to begin, Binotto will hope that all his drivers will step up their game, and achieve better results, whether that be F1 or F2.
