Max Verstappen is having a dominant season. No other driver comes close, as the Dutch driver refused to falter. But a blunder during the qualifying session on Saturday did not just have him miss out on a pole position, but it proved to be fatal to his 5-race unbeaten run.

Another Vettel fan was relieved that his record was still safe.

Fans even called him the “Only Lion of Singapore.”

After having his final qualifying lap cut short by his team due to low fuel, Verstappen was determined to make the most of the situation at hand.

How Verstappen tried to make the most of the situation on race day

The prospect of Verstappen winning the race despite starting from P8 was not a ludicrous thought. Verstappen has won the races this season starting in P14.

It was a delayed start to the race owing to a heavy downpour at the Marina Bay circuit. Once the race started, it didn’t take long for the first safety car to come out.

With a slippery wet track, Nicholas Latifi crashed into Zhou Guanyu, prompting the Safety Car to be deployed. Verstappen made the most of the restart and overtook Vettel. The race saw multiple stoppages, and it was the restart after the Virtual Safety Car on Lap 30 when one mistake from the champion driver took a massive hit on his hopes of winning the race.

Going into turn 15, Verstappen locked up his tires and went straight into the run off area. This destroy a lot of his good work as he fell down the pecking order.

Long story short, despite his best efforts, he finished in P7. The chance of winning the championship in Singapore is gone. And much to the joy of Vettel fans, the German’s record still stands.
