Remember when at the Miami GP, Christian Horner challenged Ferrari and Mercedes by asking ‘Where did Ferrari and Mercedes go?’ Looks like challenging the competitors flows in the Red Bull blood as Max Verstappen has now come out roaring like the lion he is. The Dutchman challenged Lewis Hamilton and Co. after Toto Wolff proposed to change the regulations for beating Red Bull. How did Verstappen challenge Hamilton and Co.?

Max Verstappen and Red Bull have blown the F1 grid this season and left everyone in the dust. Adrian Newey’s masterpiece and Max Verstappen’s dominance seem to be working in harmony. Toto Wolff even acknowledged Red Bull’s dominance lately. He suggested that the only way to beat the Austrian team is to either do a better job at developing the car or change the regulations to take away the advantage. 

However, Max Verstappen, who’s been a postcode ahead of the other drivers in 2023, advised that he likes a bit of competition. The Dutchman even revealed how he enjoyed the competition that Lewis Hamilton put up in 2021 explaining how he understands the Fan’s perspective when a team dominates. Contradicting Wolff’s comments who suggested that a change of regulations is required to beat Red Bull, Verstappen has asked the competitors to buckle up and catch up to RBR. 

According to FormulaPassion.it, Max Verstappen said “Sometimes it’s nice to have good competition. Honestly, I liked 2021, but I also liked how it went in 2022. Of course, at first, we had some reliability and weight problems, but in the end, the machine was really dominant. I obviously understand that people get a little bored if only one team dominates.” 

“We’ve seen this with Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull itself in the past. I hope more teams increase their competitiveness, so if you have a small problem or can’t fine-t fine-tune the set-up to 100%, there’s another team that can win.” [translated via Google]

However, Toto Wolff did advise how competition is good for the sport and for the show part of it. But none of the teams even look close to challenging Red Bull no matter what the circuit is like.

Toto Wolff advises close racing is better for everyone

2021 was the only year in the last decade when F1 witnessed 2 drivers from different teams fight it out for the title. F1 tried to make amends and promote closer racing by introducing the ground effect regulations. However, Red Bull seems to have found some magic trick and is nowhere in sight of the other top team. Toto Wolff suggests that drivers fighting it out for the title will be great, however, the reality is that it’s not happening. 

According to ESPN.in, Toto Wolff said “Obviously a strong fight between 10 drivers or at least two, is much better for all of us but it is not happening that is why you have to just accept that and work to get back there”
