Mercedes AMG and Red Bull Racing recently pulled off what could be one of the most nerve-wracking championship rivalries of all time. Of course, the Brackley outfit was on course to clinch yet another clean sweep by winning both the driver’s title and the constructor’s title in 2021.

However, quite unfortunately, Mercedes ended up suffering an awful end to the season, as Red Bull stole the driver’s championship less than a lap away from the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi. Since then, there has been an awkward silence between the two teams. Even social media banters were no longer present.

Well, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Red Bull and Mercedes have seemingly thrown away their animosity towards each other by bringing about an absolutely savage banter on Twitter.

Tom Bellingham of WTF1 shared one of the Mercedes F1 tweets hailing their prioritization of driver number design on the car; Lewis Hamilton’s W13 had the number 44 surrounded by a bright fluorescent green border, giving it a vibrant look.

How the Mercedes-Red Bull banter unfolded

Bellingham opined that if George Russell receives a different border color for his number on the car, it would be a huge victory for the team. “Big fan of what Mercedes have done with their car numbers to make them pop. If Russell has a different colour on his then this a big W,” he wrote.

Mercedes managed to come across the Briton’s comment and replied with one of the oldest Red Bull F1 references. “Just you wait, sunshine,” Mercedes wrote. This basically is what Sebastian Vettel heard through team radio following the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi back in 2010.
