Formula One is the pinnacle of motorsport racing. The drivers in the category are some of the best in the world and are super talented and fast. But there are many talented drivers who do not get a chance to showcase their talent in F1, so they move to other categories such as IndyCar and Formula E. Mercedes Academy Driver Nyck de Vries believes it is not fair to compare both categories.

Formula E is referred to as a racing series: Mercedes junior driver

As reported by Motorsport-Turkey, the Dutch driver mentioned that just like other motorsport series, Formula E is also a competitive series. He also claimed that the series is very much appreciated amongst fans and in the motorsport community.

“Formula E is referred to as a racing series. That’s how it was recognized and appreciated in motorsport. Despite this, many people still compare it to Formula 1. That is unfair to Formula E in my eyes,” said De Vries.

“For me, these are different championships and they have very different requirements. We have to see Formula E as a different championship in its own right. I’m happy to be a part of it and be able to fight for the wins. That’s why I became a race driver, after all,” said the Mercedes academy driver.

The Dutch driver has proved his mettle in the Formula E and F2 series where he became world champion. Nyck was in the running to become the Williams driver to replace Mercedes-bound George Russell in 2022. But he lost the seat to former Red Bull driver Alex Albon.

He was then in contention to join the Alfa Romeo Racing team but came out short to Guanyu Zhou. It is about time that the Dutch driver will get his chance in Formula One.
