There are hardly any team and driver on the grid with experience as great as that of Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is one of the most successful drivers in the sport’s history. This is exactly why a move to Mercedes for Mick Schumacher will be excellent, according to Mick’s uncle.
Nico Hulkenberg will replace Mick at Haas, and the young German won’t feature on the grid in 2023. However, Mick Schumacher can feature in the background according to his uncle Ralf Schumacher. Speaking to Sky, Ralf Schumacher believes a move to Mercedes in a reserve role will be beneficial for Mick’s growth.

“Mick is aiming for a comeback in a regular cockpit,” said Ralf Schumacher via Sky. “As an intermediate step, a commitment as a test and reserve driver at Mercedes is indicated.”
“For him, it would definitely be important to work with a team like Mercedes, to do simulator work, to learn from Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who have both won races or, in the case of Hamilton, world championships. That would be an incredible wealth of experience that Mick can get there,” he added.
Speaking about Hamilton specifically, he believes the world champion has a wealth of experience and knowledge to impart to the young German. “Hamilton is now so advanced in age that he passes on a lot to young drivers,” he said.
These speculations about the reserve role at Mercedes arose following the comments of the boss, Toto Wolff.

The Schumacher name shares history with the Mercedes team as legendary Michael Schumacher ended his career with the team. Seeing the current situation for Mick, Toto Wolff believes the German deserves a place on the grid. However, he also hinted him getting a role at Mercedes.
“He deserves a place on the grid and not as a test driver. Maybe there is an intermediate step in which we play a role. He fits well. I think he deserves a place in F1. We have to see if we can do something,” said Wolff.
