Mr. Saturday Out the Door as George Russell Hailed with New F1 Nickname ‘Mr. Consistency’ Takes Over

George Russell has certainly surprised everyone with his performances this season with Mercedes. The British driver has been super consistent and has finished every race at the Top-5 in 2022.
This is certainly an interesting development in the young driver’s career as previously we knew him as Mr. Saturday for his astonishing qualifying laps. But in 2022, it’s the Sundays where he has shone the most. After claiming yet another podium, his team engineer rightly called him ‘Mr. Consistent’.

“So strat 1 over the line and that’s another podium for Mr. Consistent,” said Russell‘s engineer after the chequered flag. ” Nicely done, team, well done. I think the podium is a bit of an overstretch today, but you gotta be there at the end. Let’s keep pushing,” replied the Mercedes driver.

The performance of the W13 at the Baku International Circuit surprised the Brit. But the credit should also be given to him for always being there whenever anyone from the frontrunners slips up.

Russell was certainly the faster Mercedes at the track this weekend. He is always inside the Top-5 but in Baku showed genuine pace in the race. Yet the pace came as a surprise to Russell, as he wasn’t expecting to be this competitive.

“It’s always a team effort. We’ve got to be there at the end. We would have loved to be a bit more in the fight. We probably weren’t as far away as we expected to be honest. We were a little bit quicker than we anticipated, especially compared to the midfield, so silver lining but obviously work to do,” said Russell.

It is certainly interesting to see Russell take the fight to his experienced and legendary teammate Lewis Hamilton. He has outperformed him in seven out of the eight races and has bagged 3 podiums so far.
Maybe fans should change his name from Mr. Saturday to Mr. Sunday in the coming races. Can he win his first race in F1 this season? Let’s wait and see.
