What a day it has been for the Tifosi! Although it wasn’t completely on merits, the Scuderia is back at the very front of an F1 grid. It took Charles Leclerc seven race weekends to get back on pole with Ferrari, but it’s better late than never.

In reality, Max Verstappen took a commanding pole position with a whopping 8-tenths separating the Dutch lion from the second fastest man Leclerc. However, with an impending 5-place grid penalty for taking a brand spanking new gearbox, the 25-year-old Monegasque was promoted to pole. And even though it took a bit of luck to get there, one Leclerc fan put it all on the line!

In the meanwhile, though, the Monacan racing ace is busy on Twitter trying to get a promise out of an enthusiastically religious fan of his!

A Twitter user came onto their account to Tweet, “Leclerc on pole I run naked on the circuit.” [translated via Google] And this viral Tweet caught the eye of the Ferrari man who promptly and hilariously replied, “I believe that with the penalty, it counts for a pole… Good footing.”

While Leclerc may have been quite a bit off Verstappen in Quali today, he does want to look on the brighter side of things.

Leclerc hails Ferrari’s big step forward

The true indicator of car pace cannot be the session today. For one thing, the track was ever evolving and the lap times were bound to tumble as the session went on. While Verstappen registered his scintillating lap after Leclerc, the Ferrari man is still in pretty high spirits about the result overall.

He was quoted by Formula1.com as saying, “I think in Q3 we maybe didn’t do everything right, as we went a bit too early, but at the end it’s risk versus reward. We wanted to go early to avoid any yellow flags, but the track was drying up. We maybe lost a little bit of time, but it wouldn’t have been enough to be in front of Max anyway.”

“I’m really happy. I’ll keep working in those conditions, but big steps forward already, so it’s good to see.”
