Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton served up a masterclass in driving in the 2021 season. Both drivers pushed each other to the limit throughout the season; in the end, it was Max who came out on top, but only just. Unsurprisingly, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes that in the same car Verstappen would outperform Lewis.

Horner has stated on many occasions that Max pushed the Red Bull forward in the 2021 season. He also mentioned that it was because of the Dutch driver’s will that the Austrian team could compete for the title in 2021.

I have no doubt who would be ahead: Horner on Max Verstappen and Hamilton

As reported by Motorsport-Turkey, the Red Bull team boss mentioned Hamilton is statistically the greatest driver in F1 history, but he thinks Verstappen would beat him in the same car.

“You can’t ignore what Lewis has accomplished. He’s one of the best and statistically most successful in history. But if you put Max and Lewis in Mercedes, I have no doubt who would be ahead.” said Horner.

“The thing that really stood out to me was that Max kept his head down in times of trouble, kept pushing and pushing the team forward. We know he gives 110% of it every time he gets in the car, and that gives strength to everyone around him.

It was he who kept us in the championship, especially in the second half of the year, when we didn’t have the best package. He kept pushing, he kept believing.” said Christian.

It is highly unlikely that we will ever see Verstappen and Hamilton driving in the same team and in the same car. This season showed that Max can beat Lewis in more or less equal machinery over the course of the season. But we might never know who will come out on top between them in the same car.
