Sergio Perez Looking to Stick With Red Bull F1 Beyond 2022 Amidst Pierre Gasly Threat

Sergio Perez’s season has been off to a solid start as he acquired a P4 finish in the last race. His qualifying session in Jeddah was his strong point, which earned him the pole position. However, the race did not go well as his teammate, Max Verstappen, and the Ferrari drivers beat him. However, the Mexican’s partnership with Verstappen has satisfied Red Bull so far.
In the meantime, Perez’s contract ends after this season. Red Bull signed the former Racing Point driver as a replacement for Alex Albon on a multi-year contract. Hence, his future with the Milton-Keynes-based team remains a question mark.

Perez is not paying attention to the new contract
Formula 1 is a tough business, especially for the drivers. More often than not, drivers are uncertain whether they will retain their seat after a season. And Sergio Perez’s case is the same as his contract with Red Bull expires in 2022. His first season did not grab the headlines, but he played his part as Red Bull almost put an end to Mercedes’ dominance.
Speaking on the contract situation, Perez reveals his focus is only on the upcoming races. He said, “I’ve been in Formula 1 for 12 years. I’ve been so focused on this season that I haven’t even thought about the new contract yet. At some point it will be time to think about it and at that point it won’t take long for both sides to agree. But it’s something I haven’t paid attention to yet.”

Max Verstappen is clearly Red Bull’s first driver. At the same time, Perez is also happy to play the support role and has a good relationship with the Dutchman. The second driver situation in Red Bull has not been stable in recent years. They have gone with Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon recently, but both failed to utilize their opportunities.
Horner and Co trust the Mexican as they hope to beat Ferrari and end their Championship drought. However, Gasly’s performances with AlphaTauri have certainly not gone unnoticed. Many believe the Frenchman deserves another shot with Red Bull. At the same time, his contract with Red Bull also expires in 2022.
