“Strong Results Should Be Rewarded” – Pierre Gasly on Returning to Red Bull Amidst Maiden F1 Win

Pierre Gasly was simply phenomenal at Monza yesterday. A thoroughly deserved maiden Grand Prix win for the Frenchman. Although this was his first podium finish of the year, Gasly has undoubtedly been the driver of the season, even prior to the Italian Grand Prix.
The 24-year-old has consistently put in good showings, often outperforming his car, both in the races as well as in qualifying. The disappointment of being dropped by Red Bull, midway through 2019, seems a distant memory now.
But with his impressive outings in 2020, coupled with Alex Albon and his failure to impress, many think that Gasly deserves to partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull, sooner rather than later.

Amidst the rumors of a promotion growing, Gasly said, “I think I’m ready. But as I said, it’s not up to me to make that call. The only thing I have done since they moved me back to Toro Rosso has been just to focus on myself and just show what I can do.”
However, Gasly further added, “Obviously I guess the strong results should be rewarded with something. But we will see what happens. At the moment it’s not something I really want to think about.”
Pierre has certainly amped up the pressure on Albon. But prior to the race in Monza, Red Bull boss Christian Horner said Albon still has their full backing. It will be interesting to see if Gasly’s win changes that narrative.

About his axing by Red Bull, Gasly said, “That was purely a tough moment last year. Obviously, I felt hurt and I didn’t feel it was fair to myself.”
However, Pierre said that he always had the self-confidence and belief in himself and knows that he has the tools to succeed in F1. “I know I’m fast, I know what I can do, I’ve been fighting for championships in my early years and that’s what I want in F1.”

He said that he put in a lot of hard work with Toro Rosso and focused solely on his own performance. He also thanked the team for giving him everything and helping to improve his game.
Gasly concluded saying, “They really put all the energy for my own performance which I really appreciate because thanks to that, today gave us my first race win in Formula 1.”
