Alfa Romeo opened up their points tally for the season thanks to Antonio Giovinazzi. The Italian finished the season opener in P9 and secured two points for himself and the team.

This gives the Swiss team an advantage over rivals like Haas and Williams, both of whom didn’t score any points last week. His teammate Kimi Raikkonen may well have won the team a few more points had his front right tire not abandoned ship.

However, heading into the second race of the season, neither of the drivers made it past Q3. Antonio Giovinazzi will start the Styrian Grand Prix at P19 while his Finnish teammate will do the same in P16.

Nevertheless, the ‘Iceman’ doesn’t think his qualifying session was too bad.

Kimi Raikkonen thinks the Alfa Romeo C39 performed better today than it did last weekend

Classic Kimi from r/formula1

Raikkonen spoke to Formula1 an hour or so before the race. He claims that he was satisfied with qualifying and that the rain wasn’t a major concern for him yesterday.

He said, “The spray is always the issue but apart from that, actually it wasn’t too bad. It’s more about being in the right place and get the timing right.”

Addressing the progress Alfa Romeo made with the car this weekend, he said, “It felt a bit better but obviously we’ll see very soon where we are in the race condition.

“Let’s hope we can fight and first of all, finish the race and try to score points. Scoring points is the first priority.”

A vintage Kimi moment

But an interview with Kimi wouldn’t be complete without the ‘Iceman’ providing us with an iconic ‘Go f**k yourself’ moment. And he did not disappoint today either.

When asked by the interviewer to give fans a few words in Finnish, Raikkonen just walked away shaking his head, back to his pit.

As Raikkonen said, the aim for himself and the team would be a points finish. Alfa Romeo are definitely not going to be competing with the likes of McLaren, Renault, and Racing Point for the ‘best of the rest’ title.

Even beating AlphaTauri may be a step too far for them, so they would want to finish the season in a higher position than Haas and Williams.
