“The Answer Is No”: Despite Extending Support to W Series, Nico Rosberg Bans Daughter From Racing by Using Carlos Sainz’s Example

Romain Grosjean attracted a race ban after the chaos that he caused at the start of the 2012 Belgium GP. However, it wasn’t the FIA who banned him, not his father. Nico Rosberg on the other hand has banned her daughter from racing despite the fact that he supports W series and female racing drivers. The German Driver used Carlos Sainz’s example for the same. What did Nico Rosberg really say?
F1 introduced the F1 Academy last year and appointed Susie Wolff as the managing director. F1 Academy is an F4-level all-women racing series introduced to promote females into all classes of Motorsports. W Series is also a similar venture but was cut short last year because of funding issues. Many drivers have supported the new ventures including Nico Rosberg. The German driver recently advised that there should be more women across all the racing categories and explained how women have made a lot of progress in racing.
Rosberg himself has a team in Extreme E racing. The races take part in remote parts of the world on rugged terrain. Extreme E supports gender equality as within a team it is mandatory to have one female and one male driver. Despite supporting female drivers on so many levels, Nico Rosberg banned her daughter from racing. The German Driver gave the example of Carlos Sainz Sr.’s crash at Extreme E last year as justification to stop her daughter from racing. Carlos Sainz Jr posted a recovery message for his dad on social media and Nico Rosberg doesn’t wanna do the same for her daughter.

According to Marca.com, Rosberg when asked about her daughter’s racing possibility said “One hundred percent not. I would be terrified that I would drive these cars so fast in these areas, there are many possibilities for things to happen. If I wanted to do it, I wouldn’t object, but if you ask me if I want to, the answer is no. Last year look at what happened to Carlos Sainz [had a serious accident] or Cattie Munnings [suffered a rollover, without consequences].” [Translated Via Google]
Nevertheless, after looking at Extreme E’s racing model, Rosberg suggested that even Formula 1 needs females in the sport. Let’s see what the German World Champion had to say.

Lella Lombardi was the last woman to race in Formula. Do you know what year it was when she last participated in an F1 race? It was 1976! Almost half a century ago. Nico Rosberg advised that women need better support to make it to the top which is now being provided by F1 academy. However, there’s still a long way to go. Rosberg added that if F1 really wants to get females on the Grid, they will find a way.
According to total-motorsport.com, Nico Rosberg said “We need to promote women in motorsport more strongly, as we do in Extreme E, and that goes all the way to Formula 1! For this, we need financial, but also idealistic support. Does Formula 1 also need a quota in order to finally make progress in terms of equality? I don’t have a final solution, but I have learned one thing in Formula 1: where there’s a will, there’s a way. And there is a solution for everything!”
