A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. Many aspiring and current F1 drivers grew up watching Fernando Alonso fight and win championships. Things are bound to get heated in a close title fight and one has to come as the Villain in that fight. Fernando Alonso is that Villain, that’s what the people buy. However, Yuki Tsunoda’s confession about his F1 Hero shoots down Alonso’s Villainous image.

Fernando Alonso has been the Villain in every chapter of the F1 book of the last decade. The Spaniard’s actions on and off the track symbolize his vicious image. Whether it’s being critical of his team’s performance off-track or his infamous radio messages on track. ” GP2 Engine, GP2″ and ” The engine feels good, much slower than before” are perfect examples of sarcastic villainous radio messages made by Alonso in the past. The two-time-world champion mentioned that there will be heroes and anti-heroes on an F1 track and that he is on the dark side.

However, that is the only side of Alonso which is showcased to us. Yuki Tsunoda recently removed the curtains of Fernando Alonso’s reality. While the Spaniard’s image is portrayed as that of a Villain, he actually is a humble and kind guy. Tsunoda suggested that even he had a different image of Alonso in his head before he actually met him.

According to the Beyond the Grid podcast, Yuki Tsunoda said, “Actually, it’s a different kind of image I was thinking before I actually met with Fernando and talked to him. I was expecting Fernando to be more like… I don’t know, he’s a legend and I didn’t expect definitely as much as he’s now friendly and chatty. I was actually expecting a lot differently.”

Fernando Alonso’s nature to always wish for more performance and a clinical approach toward racing gives him a Villainous image. The same was the case with Sebastian Vettel during his Red Bull and Ferrari days. However, the German went soft and lost his aggressiveness ever since he joined Aston Martin. The Spaniard still carries the aggressiveness and will help Aston Martin propel forward.

Sebastian Vettel was as aggressive as Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen, especially during his Red Bull days. The German never gave any breathing space to other drivers. However, as his car declined in performance, his aggression went away. Fernando Alonso’s case is exactly the opposite, as the Spaniard became more aggressive with every passing season. The host of the VF1 show podcast suggests Vettel fell out of the Villain role, whereas Alonso still very much embraces it.

According to the VF1 show podcast, the host suggested “But Then again, people also say that Seb didn’t drive merely as aggressively as he used to. He kind of fell out of that Villain role whereas Fernando Alonso is still very much the villain.” Further adding, “He [Fernando Alonso] embraces that Villian status.”
