Despite McLaren F1 Complications, Daniel Ricciardo Takes the Positive Route With Retired Tennis Champion Ash Barty

Daniel Ricciardo has been joined by the retired Australian Tennis legend, Ashleigh Barty, at Optus. Ricciardo joined Optus as their Chief of Optimism in 2020. Optus is an Australian telecommunications firm that has onboarded both Daniel Ricciardo and Ashleigh Barty to become brand ambassadors in light of their exploits in their respective sports.

The 26-year-old has joined the firm as their Chief of Inspiration.

The main initiative of the campaign can be understood with Ricciardo‘s Instagram reel, which reads “we’ll be working together, inspiring Australians to take on each day with the mindset to say ‘yes’ and make great things happen.”

In the video, it seems that Barty doesn’t regret the time when she decided to retire and says yes to her gut. She had earlier said, “I don’t have the physical drive, the emotional want and everything it takes to challenge yourself at the very top of the level anymore. I am spent.”

Daniel Ricciardo extends at Optus

Recently, Ricciardo has been struggling in the cockpit. Further, rumors have been circulating around the paddock that he might lose his McLaren seat to country mate Oscar Piastri. Despite this, in 2022, Ricciardo extended his sponsorship deal with Optus.

According to the Australian firm, when they signed him back in 2020, expressing “he radiates positivity and optimism.”. Even though things have not exactly panned out how he would have hoped at McLaren, Ricciardo is still a fan favorite.

Netflix’s Drive to Survive has played a major role in expanding Ricciardo’s fanbase. Hence, it seems like a wise strategic and commercial decision by Optus to retain Ricciardo. In line with this, Optus has now brought allow fellow Aussie Ashleigh Barty to the Optus family.

How will the 2022 season pan out for the Chief of Optimism? Well, it is difficult to be optimistic about Ricciardo’s current situation at McLaren. The rumor mill suggests that Piastri’s contract has been ratified by the FIA’s Contract Recognition Board.

Will we see him back at Renault (now Alpine)? Or maybe Williams, perhaps? One thing is for sure, he’ll be spreading positivity through this relationship with Optus.
