The Asian Tour sees the players head over to Oman for its second event of the 2023 season. Al Mouj Golf in Muskat hosts the International Series Oman, which is Tour’s first International Series event. The tournament has many LIV golfers competing as a part of the field, eagerly looking for a share of the purse this week. But that isn’t all they’ll be fighting for. Let’s find out what all benefits are at stake event.

The Tour’s inaugural event last week, the PIF Saudi International, saw the rare sight of PGA Tour players playing alongside LIV golfers. But this week sees no such clash. Nonetheless, with the big names as part of the field, the event has already gained quite some traction.

Field and Format of the Tournament

The event sees a field of 132 players, of which more than 30 of them have ties with LIV Golf. Among them are four captains of the breakaway tour’s 12 teams, who will also be on the course this week. Sergio Garcia, captaining the Fireballs GC, and Brooks Koepka, who leads the Smash GC, are two among the few favorites to take home a win.

But they certainly have their work cut out for them. Joaquin Niemann, who leads the Torque GC, and Louis Oosthuizen, captain of the Stinger GC, are also on the course and eagerly looking for a win.

Not all 132 players will play on the last two days of the tournament. After 36 holes, i.e., on Friday, a cut for the top 65 players and ties will be made. The bottom half of the leaderboard will then head home early.

The winner’s cut and other perks at the International Series Oman

As per Golf News Net, all the players who play in the final two rounds will walk away with a cut of the $2 million purse. The winner will take home $360,000, which is more than the standard 18 percent payout as per the prize money distribution chart of the Asian Tour.

Equally, if not more important than the money, are also the other perks that the winner will receive. The winner will receive 12.8 OWGR points based on field strength in addition to a two-plus season exemption on the Asian Tour. Surely the LIV golfer will have an eye out for these points.
