You must have heard of people visiting golf courses to play rounds of the game with their families and friends. You must have also heard of people coming in just to visit a historical course to live all the stories the place holds. Well, it is very different from the case of the Des Moines based Waveland Golf Course. And the reason people visit this place has nothing to do with playing golf!

Visitors gather at Waveland Golf Course to enjoy some snow time

Who doesn’t like the winters? Especially when you come from a place that offers snowball fights with your neighbors every season. Well, for the people of Des Moines and nearby areas, the famous Waveland Golf Course serves the purpose. As per reports, the snow-filled course continues to be one of the most visited places in the area in winter. And the best part – they don’t even play golf there!

Dozens of families are seen bringing along their sleds and inner tubes every season to the Waveland Golf Course. And so was the case this Sunday, when the place was filled with kids and their parents having the time of their lives! Considering it one of the best places for winter adventures, David Biscoe of Akeny visited the course with his family. And as it turns out, it is almost like a tradition for him now.

“We’ve come to the Waveland every winter that it snows,” he said when asked about his experience. “We meet the cousins down here and hit the hills. We had to clear our way out of the driveway first, but we knew that there was going to be some good sledding today.” Being a father, his first priority was to let his kids have fun. But looking at the entire six-inch layer of snow, he couldn’t resist taking a trip down the slope himself!

“It’s exhilarating…You feel like a kid again.”, he added. And it is not something illegal or prohibited in the area. The city council is all in for the activity and suggests that people must only sled if the snow is more than four inches high. What an adventure for the folks at Des Moines!
