Tiger Woods has been the talk of the town this past month. The golf pro’s entire personal life has been on a downward spiral since his messy split with Erica Herman. From the $30 million ongoing legal battle to the disgruntled former girlfriend keen on taking down the golf pro, it is quite certain that Woods is going through some troubled times. And amid this turmoil, he now suffers yet another blow from the old-timer legend, Gary Player, who recently called a “bad decision” that the golf pro once made.

Gary Player points out Woods’ grave mistake

Player recently sat down with the Daily Mail for an exclusive interview. From the fast-approaching Masters to his feelings about the breakaway tour, he discussed it. Inevitably, while chatting up the golf legend, other top players’ names popped up. And of course, Tiger Woods was among them.

A South African golfer sang high praises of Woods but also pointed out serious mistakes that he made. “Tiger Woods was the most talented golfer the planet has ever seen,” he claimed. “But he made a few bad decisions, which we all do.” So, what were these grave errors that the 15-time major winner had committed, as per the 87-year-old? Well, Player just mentioned the one—Woods’ swing change.

Player claimed that Woods’ play style when he won the 2020 US Open by a whopping 15 strokes was the best he had ever seen. He said, “Having lessons when he won the US Open by 15 shots was inconceivable.” And his biggest mistake was changing that. “If he never went for a lesson he would have won 20 majors minimum and he would have beat Nicklaus’s record,” he boldly declared.

Throughout his 26-year career, Woods has changed his swing and playing style four times. While some changes have served him extremely well, others are seen as the most disastrous mistake the pro could have made. And Player isn’t alone in thinking that!

Woods was at his peak while working with Butch Harmon between 1994 and 2002. He had won eight major championships and was on the path to winning even more. And then in 2002, he let Harmon go, and with that, he went on a two-year major championship winning streak.
