Jordan Spieth has undoubtedly had an incredible golf career since turning pro in 2013. Unfortunately, of late, the storm that the 3-time major winner brought with him has been missing from the course. It seems like in the past year, fate has dealt Spieth a lot of bad luck. From narrowly missed victories to close call cuts, he’s seen some dark days. But now it seems like things have finally turned around for the golf pro. He just became the luckiest golfer at the Players Championship. And all thanks to one fan!
The golf world goes wild over Spieth’s luck
The 13-time PGA Tour pro is currently playing in Florida at the Players Championship, competing for the huge $25 million purse. And after a horrendous start to the second round, his chances at making the cut were looking bleak. Until, of course, the 9th hole. Already 4 over in the second round, Spieth swung his club at the 9th hole and watch as the ball swerved right, heading straight out of play.

However, the fates intervened! Instead of going straight into the water, his ball hit a fan standing right before the hazard and bounced straight off his knee and onto the fairway. Everyone watched in shock as Spieth’s potential double bogey turned into an eagle for him. The fans went berserk. They could not believe what they had just witnessed.

Some fans were also furious that no one had shouted “fore” to warn the audience. They exclaimed that it was basic courtesy, after all, the golf could have hit anyone anywhere!

Jordan Spieth is more than grateful to the fan
In the interview after the second round, Spieth claimed that the shot at the 9th hole had completely turned around his game. “I got an extremely lucky break on No. 9, or I wouldn’t be playing the weekend,” he said. “Overall, I got very very fortunate on 9.” And Spieth knew he owed it all to the fan.

At the hole, he had given him his glove, but he knew it wasn’t enough. “I’m trying to get that guy’s information and see literally whatever he wants this weekend,” he stated, grateful. “Because everything from here on out is because it hit him.” Spieth ended the second round tied for 39th with a total score of par, making the cut. And for that, he’ll be eternally grateful to the fan!
