With the LIV Golf Series around the corner, majority of its players are looking for some match practice. Several of them have thus decided to play at the Saudi International, which is funded by the PIF as well. Among them is Bryson DeChambeau, who, in his first start in the season, was involved in a funny moment with LIV colleague Patrick Reed.

Bryson DeChambeau or Patrick Reed? Fans get confused

The first round of the Saudi International took place at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club today. But an incident from the event left fans wondering. It involved two former major championship winners, distance-hitter Bryson DeChambeau and the often controversial Patrick Reed.

The incident happened when Reed, who was in the news recently for the teegate controversy, set up for his tee shot. The announcer made his regular call-out for the golfer as well, until the figure of a slim-looking DeChambeau stepped in.

On his arrival, Reed picked up his ball and made way for DeChambeau. The latter then took his time before dispatching the shot as if nothing had transpired. Reed eventually made his way to his tee and struck a clean shot, which won the applause of the fans.

But why did DeChambeau rush to take his shot before Reed? Onlookers were left visibly puzzled and so were fans on the internet. Some argued that the 2020 U.S. Open champion was required to re-tee following one of his earlier shots, while others imagined he was in a hurry. Netizens also felt that the incident could spill further, like the teegate controversy that occurred at the Dubai Desert Classic. Here’s a selection of those tweets.

How are Patrick Reed and DeChambeau preparing for LIV Golf Season 2?

The two golfers didn’t have the most glamorous debut seasons on the lucrative series. DeChambeau captained the Crushers GC in 2022 but finished a lowly 21st after failing to secure a top-10 finish.

On the other hand, Reed represented the 4 Aces GC, which won the team championship last year. His best position came in LIV Bangkok, where he secured a runners-up finish.
