Since the beginning of the PGA Championship, apart from the most rooted players, if there is any player whose performance was closely monitored, it was Jon Rahm. The Spaniard, who might have been the POTY winner in 2023, left the season of exceptional performances midseason and joined the Saudi-backed league, which ruined his chances. But with his performance graph, which was on an incline, the golf community expected an impressive performance in the major. However, it turned out to be the opposite for Rahm. Now, fast forward to 2025, he has been under scrutiny for ruining his game after switching leagues.
Even in the press conference, Rahm answered on the speculation, clarifying the doubts, he said, “Me going to LIV and playing worse in majors had nothing to do with where I was playing golf. My swing was simply not at the level it had to be for me to compete. It’s easier to post a score on non-major championship courses and venues, and I think when you get to the biggest stages like this one and these courses, those flaws are going to get exposed, and it did.” Well, after backing the league with his form, the golfer has recorded a great score after three rounds, and he is placed T-5 after scoring 70-70-67.
But surprisingly, Brandel Chamblee, who has been the biggest critic of the league, has been speaking for the golfer. He joined the Golf Channel panel and shared, “I’ve certainly not often missed an opportunity to criticize LIV, but I certainly miss Jon Rahm on the PGA Tour.” Woah! Praise from Chamblee is something that isn’t usual, but that wasn’t it.

He continued, saying, “I miss watching his style of golf. I miss watching him play.” Shocking words coming from the critic, but the truth. The former World No.1 has 22 professional wins, out of which 11 are from the PGA Tour, including the 2023 Masters and the 2021 US Open. After the dip in performance since 2023, this year, the golfer has shared a great comeback sign with his performance.

Jon Rahm’s performance stats of the PGA Championship
Despite a T14 finish at the Masters and a missed cut at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Rahm is showing signs of a comeback with his performance in the PGA Championship. Even though the start was rough, as in the first six holes, he recorded 4 bogeys. But it didn’t take long for him to get back and start staying below par. He recorded 14 birdies and 8 bogeys in three rounds. But what has impressed the golf community is his accuracy. Currently, he is trailing at T5, with Scottie Scheffler leading.
Rahm has achieved 68.5% greens in regulation, along with 61.9% driving accuracy. Additionally, his 42.9% saves are what have helped him in achieving the great comeback performance. Now with improving form, Rahm is just 5 strokes behind the top spot. Will the final 18 holes be enough for him to cover the lead against the World No. 1? What are your thoughts on it?
