Phil Mickelson is in trouble. Lefty faced backlash as his comments about the Saudi-backed Golf League got published. While many PGA Tour players opted to either avoid the topic or gave subtle responses, Brooks Koepka had a very straightforward answer.

When Koepka was asked about the recent statement from Mickelson, he didn’t look happy. Yet, he answered anyway. Brooks explained that he and everybody else had been happy with the PGA Tour. He added, “He (Phil) can think whatever he wants to think, man. He can do whatever he wants to do.”

Despite Mickelson’s claim that the Tour pays less and treats poorly of the players, Brooks doesn’t think the same. He said, “I think everybody out here is happy. I think… a lot of people out here have the same opinion.”

Apology letter from Phil Mickelson

After his controversial statement about Saudi League and PGA Tour was published last week, Mickelson had been receiving backlashes. In a recent social media post, the golfer released an apology letter for his comments against the organizations. 

“I apologize for anything that I said was taken out of context,” The statement read. “My intent was never to hurt anyone and I’m sorry to the people I have negatively impacted.” He also added that he would be taking a break and would work on himself in the meantime.

Despite posting the apology letter, Lefty lost two of his sponsors. KPMG and Amstel Light announced that they had cut ties with the golfer. 

Koepka’s relationship with Saudi League

From the very beginning, Koepka had rejected the idea of the Saudi League. According to him, the PGA Tour gives him the freedom to do anything he wants. 

Brooks began his professional career in 2012 and joined the PGA Tour in 2014. His first win came a year later with the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Moreover, Koepka has won 4 major championships; he won the U. S. Open and the PGA Championship twice. Notably, the 31-year-old was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year in 2018.

2022 began fairly good for Mickelson. Everyone expecting Lefty to win another championship may be a major. However, everything went downhill as soon as he began being vocal about the League and Tour. What do you think would happen to Lefty after this? Will he ever play for the PGA or the League?
