The finale of the 2023 PGA Championship brought with itself some good fortune for the qualified LIV golfers. LIV players who have lost access to OWGR points after their shift to the rebel league would be rejoicing with the updated rankings. There is no doubt that Rochester witnessed class strokes and unparallel skills. However, the noteworthy point is the level of competition added by LIV Golf Pros.

Among the sixteen players who had qualified for the second major championship, three LIV golfers registered their names in the Top 10. The ascendancy was led by Brooks Koepka, who clinched his third PGA Championship. Just behind him on the leaderboard were Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith, who took their berth at T4 and T9, respectively. Though their performance was marvelous, it is the massive jumps in the world ranking achieved by LIV Golf players that are under the spotlight.

The phenomenal stroke play by the two golfers—Brooks and DeChambeau has attracted the attention of every golf enthusiast. The tough conditions of Oak Hill East Course were tamed by both golfers in the best possible way. Hence, it was not surprising to see them comfortably take their seats in the Top 10 after the Sunday finish.

Particularly, Brooks Koepka, who managed to become the first LIV golfer to win a major tournament. After an excellent birdie at the 16th hole that proved to be challenging for other golfers, the 33-year-old took home his third Wanamaker trophy. It was not only the PGA Championship scores that Koepka managed to exceed. Rather, the five-time major champion tilted the OWGR in his favor. From 44th place, Brooks ascended 31 steps to sit at the 13th position.

Although, the victory alone at the PGA Championship isn’t responsible for Brooks’ better OWGR position. His second-position tie at the 2023 Masters also drastically improved his rank. Apart from the OWGR standings, the American golfer rose to the No.2 spot in the Ryder Cup rankings. All he has to do now is maintain the rank and he will automatically qualify for the team event.

Impressively, the former World No.1 isn’t the only LIV golfer to climb the OWGR ladder. Bryson DeChambeau also accomplished a big leap in his rank after this weekend. From a three-digit position, the 2020 U.S. Open winner soared to No.90.

Other LIV Golf players at Oak Hill and their OWGR standings

The golf course in New York opened its gates for 16 LIV Golf Stars on 18th May. While we got to be part of a spectacular display of skills from the monstrous roughs, we also saw a spike in the rankings of two prominent LIV players. However, it is not just these two players who were able to soar to better spots in the world ranking.

Although smaller jumps as compared to Brooks and Bryson, Patrick Reed and Mito Pereira rose four and six steps, respectively. Both the golfers ended up tied at the 18th position in Rochester on Sunday. While Reed has managed to take the 44th spot, Mito is just six steps behind him at No.50.

Harold Varner III and Phil Mickelson have also succeeded in moving one step ahead of their original spots. These two LIV professionals take the 64th and 79th positions respectively after the conclusion of the 2023 PGA Championship. Earlier this year at the Masters, Mickelson had played really well and scored 8-under par.

Amidst all the moves on the OWGR leaderboard, two LIV players didn’t change their position at all. This includes Dustin Johnson, who finished at T55 and the World No. 8 Cameron Smith.
