Remember Rory McIlroy and his wild Ryder Cup celebrations? No, we are not talking about the six-figure bar bill ($308,662) the European team accumulated in wild celebrations. But we are talking about McIlroy and teammate Matt Fitzpatrick carefully placing a European flag over Bryson DeChambeau’s name. It was a taunt of DeChambeau’s name, a pretty successful one considering the reactions to it. Yet, you’d be forgiven for thinking only McIlroy can throw a jab.

Recently, DeChambeau paired with American comedian and actor Kevin Hart for his new series ‘Caddie Talk,’ where several celebrities will try their hand at being the LIV golfer’s caddie. Pretty fun concept. But something even more fun happened when Hart mentioned some fan comments under another new segment, ‘Bryson Gets Cooked,’ starting with, “Why does it look like you have a stick up your a** when you putt?”
For those who missed it, Team USA performed poorly when it came to putting at Bethpage. In fact, DeChambeau failed to crack the top ten in SG: Putting overall (+0.44), despite scoring great driving distance. So, pretty solid burn, but then came the next question: “Is Rory McIlroy a better golfer than you?” DeChambeau dramatically sighed, then replied, “I beat him at the U.S. Open,” then admitted with a smile, “but he did beat me at the Masters. Son of a b**ch.”

Hart reminded Bryson DeChambeau of another thing: he missed the cut at the 2025 U.S. Open. “How does that make you feel?” Hart asked, to which the pro replied, “Ugh. Pent up. Pent up.” Regardless of the previous results, including besting McIlroy at the 2024 U.S. Open and getting silent treatment from McIlroy during the final round at the 2025 Masters, the two have often dragged each other through the mud.

At the 2025 TOUR Championship, for instance, McIlroy took a brutal dig at DeChambeau by saying, “I think the only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people,” and, “That is basically what I think of that. To get attention, he will mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others.” DeChambeau gave a pretty diplomatic reply to that jab; however, his latest comment is proof that things are still pretty competitive between them. On the other hand, despite his light approach to the Ryder Cup heartbreak, DeChambeau is facing sharp criticism for his performance.

The sharp criticism of Bryson DeChambeau’s approach at Bethpage
“I had a chance to look at that lie from Bryson, it was a heavier lie in the grass,” said former pro Smylie Kaufman on The Smylie Show. “It wasn’t sitting down in some hardpan, there was enough on it to where I felt like he could have done better with that in that moment.” Then added, “The way he hits golf shots, I feel like, sometimes, it hurts him in moment.” In case you’re wondering, it had to do with Bryson DeChambeau’s singles match against Matt Fitzpatrick.
In Sunday’s singles, DeChambeau faced a huge deficit, trailing Matt Fitzpatrick by five strokes after just seven holes. He needed a solid return to secure a crucial point for Team USA. He did just that. With that in mind, DeChambeau made a stunning comeback, leveling the match on the 17th and securing a crucial half-point with a tie on the 18th.

Still, Kaufman suggested that DeChambeau could have played a more strategic approach shot, potentially forcing Fitzpatrick to putt first and exposing his line. Regardless, DeChambeau played alright, and registered Strokes Gained: Total at +3.62 in the entire field. On the other hand, DeChambeau is taking such drawbacks seriously.
In other recent news, DeChambeau has partnered with Google Cloud to create a new AI tool that helps golfers analyze their swings in real-time using just a smartphone. This is a big deal for him, especially since working with Sportsbox AI helped him win the 2024 U.S. Open. It will help with his swing. Or, putting. Regardless, he said, “The AI will help steer you closer and closer to your optimal performance.” Whether that will help is another thing, but fans and critics alike will hope nonetheless that he fixes his game before the next Ryder Cup.
