Cameron Smith shares how LIV pros support each other at the majors

Usually, the Saudi-backed league is scarcely represented in the majors, as only a few of its players are able to qualify for them. It was pretty evident at the 124th U.S. Open, when only 13 LIV golfers qualified, out of which only eight made it to the weekend. In such a situation, the LIV golfers were likely to stick up for each other in the large pool of PGA Tour players.

Talking about the same, in an interview posted on Instagram by Crusher GC, Cameron Smith thus relayed, “We go to the majors and we’re all pulling for each other.” However, once they return to their normal schedule on LIV, things take a turn. Joking about the scene back at LIV, Smith laughingly added, “Then we come back out here and it’s like no, f*uck you. We wanna beat you this week”

However, just as he highlighted the competition among the Saudi-backed league players, Smith also described his emotions regarding DeChambeau’s U.S. Open win. Regardless of how things work at LIV, Smith smiled at the victory and said, “I’m happy for him that he got it done. He really is a big fan of that for sure.”

Smith was not the only one happy for DeChambeau and his second major victory. Joaquin Niemann was also rooting for the 30-year-old to win and in admiration for his hard work, said, “He is a great champion” and he deserved it all. Another LIV pro who was impressed by DeChambeau’s play at the 124th U.S. Open was the legendary player on the breakaway circuit, Phil Mickelson.

Lefty applauds Bryson DeChambeau for his victory and showmanship

After missing the cut for the U.S. Open, Phil Mickelson headed home and tuned in to watch the riveting match between Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau. Just like everyone else, Lefty was hyping his fellow LIV golfer to win, which left him amazed in the end. Appreciating DeChambeau and his victory, the 45-time PGA Tour winner said, “Watching him play and come down the stretch and seeing the way he attacked that golf course [Pinehurst No. 2] and dominated, it was really impressive.”

Additionally, Mickelson also lauded the 2-time U.S. Open winner for his interactions with fans and attributed it to his recent emergence as the fans’ favorite golfer. Mickelson noted that DeChambeau’s ability to hit the long drives makes him exciting but what also worked for him was that “he connects with the fans and he has this great energy,” said the 53-year-old.
