However, young Charlie wasn’t going to pull back. Having deeply fallen in love with Helen, he sent her a letter asking her to marry him – along with an engagement ring inside. The move melted the lady’s heart, who promptly said yes to the proposal.

“He said, ‘I will always provide for you and you will never want for anything,’” their daughter, Marilyn, said. “He couldn’t live without her.”

The lovable couple gave birth to two children, son Jack, and daughter Marilyn. Father Charlie was outgoing and pushed his children to play outdoor sports. However, Jack’s mother was more conservative, as she was afraid of loss due to her tragic past.
