The golf world brings along all kinds of crazy things for the fans with each passing day. So much so that even a huge black snake resting inside a hole doesn’t surprise fans anymore. And who can avoid the regular alligator encounters on the course? Well, this time, it was not the animals that got the attention of golf fans and officials. In fact, it was a young teenager, who was forced to make an unexpected move to get the attention of the council.

Teenager takes away the council’s attention with his unpredicted golf strategy

Ben Thornbury, 18, hails from Malmesbury, Wiltshire, but is not very happy with the situation of the roads there. And it was understandable why he wasn’t content after he shared a viral picture of a huge, scary pothole in the middle of the road, prone to cause great discomfort to anyone who passes over it. But unlike every other passerby, Mr. Thornbury decided to take matters into his own hands.

With a sign that read “High Street Crazy Potholes Golf Now Open”, the teen shared a picture holding a club ready to putt a golf ball into the pothole. Well, of course, the hole was too big to be considered similar to one on a golf course. But it was one of the best ways he could think of to make sure his voice was heard by the council.

Reflecting on his epic idea, the 18-year-old said, “I’m really proud it was my idea. People were playing crazy golf in middle of the high street while all the cars were coming past.” According to Thornbury, over 20 people stopped by and decided to play a few shots in the middle of the road, “It’s just been such a rewarding feeling and people have been messaging me saying, ‘You’ve done it again for the community”.

How did people on social media react to the teenager’s golf idea?

Despite doing something so creative yet so bold, it was not the first time Thornbury was doing something for the welfare of the society. In fact, the young man loves spending his free time volunteering for projects including tasks like trimming overgrown hedges as well as cleaning the streets.

As soon as he posted the picture of the “golf pothole” on Facebook, fans started to pour likes and show support for the guy. “The potholes in town have been a massive issue for months now. Residents have been complaining on Facebook saying all the roads and the high street is full of them,” he said. “We’ve been reporting it and had no response from the council and now people are getting fed up that nothing is being done about it.”
