Golfers duck for cover to avoid swarm of bees during PGA Tour event

On Thursday, a swarm of bees surrounded Erik van Rooyen before his shot on No. 10 at the Vidanta Vallarta, forcing him to hit the turf. “Bees Bees Bees!” the golfer exclaimed, prompting Reavie, Molinari, and the caddies to follow suit.

Their reaction to the bees also amused the commentators, one of whom remarked, “That is the most unusual thing I have ever seen on a golf course!” Once the coast was clear, everyone seemed to have a laugh about the entire fiasco.

South Africa’s van Rooyen later commented on the “funny” situation, sharing that he did not want to get “stung by those bad boys.” In spite of the distraction, the golfer will be happy with his first day’s performance. The 33-year-old, who carded a 7-under 64, sits one shot back of leader Austin Smotherman.

However, the event got off to a rather amusing start on Thursday, with many bees swarming onto the field. Fans couldn’t help but react to the unique situation.
