Phil Mickelson has finally confirmed his participation in the inaugural Liv Golf tournament after signing a lucrative deal with the Saudi-backed Tour. But does this mean that he has resigned from the PGA Tour?

Liv Tour CEO Greg Norman revealed on Monday that Mickelson will be participating in the Liv Golf Invitational Series this weekend. The 51-year-old looks to return to professional golf, playing his first tournament in 2022.
Mickelson is reported to have signed a deal worth $200 million with the Tour. He is expected to play all eight tournaments in the Tour but has also revealed that he wished to participate in a Major next week.

Will Mickelson never play on the PGA Tour again?
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the 6-time Major Champion was asked whether he has resigned his PGA Tour Membership to avoid any suspension from the Tour. However, Mickelson seemed very reluctant with the idea of resignation.
He said, “I have not resigned my membership. I worked really hard to earn that lifetime membership. And I’m hopeful that I’ll have the ability to play wherever I want, where it’s the PGA Tour, LIV or wherever else I want.’’
Mickelson further expressed his desire to play in the 2022 US Open that will take place from June 16th to 19th at The Country Club Village in Massachusetts. The PGA have not yet provided any statement regarding Lefty joining their rival Tour.

Details about the Liv Tour
The Liv Tour is financially backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which is mainly the reason behind its high prize money offerings. Golf Hall of Famer Greg Norman is the CEO of the Liv Tour.

Apart from Mickelson, top golfers like Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, Kevin Na, and Sergio Garcia will also be participating in the Tour. Rumors are swirling that Rickie Fowler could also be joining the nemesis of PGA.

Centurion Club outside of London will be the first venue of Liv Tour. It will be held during the same period as the RBC Canadian Open from June 9th to 11th.
