“This last year I’ve kind of gone dark, if you will, and rightfully so,” he said. “I have to be very careful; I can’t say all the things I want to say yet. But many this year I’ll be able to. I’ll have that freedom when some of these things going on off the course get settled and become more transparent.”

Mentally, Mickelson went through a rough year in 2022. The celebrated golfer was at the end of criticism from all quarters after his lucrative move to the LIV Golf Series. He was also on the receiving end for his comments on the PGA Tour, which fractured his relationship with the board.
Mickelson plunges into the physical aspect of the game
Along similar lines, the golfer revealed that he had been working on his swing coach, Andrew Getson. The 52-year-old has worked to hone clubface “awareness”, which enhances shot-shaping skills.
“The best that it’s been was at Kiawah in ’21, as far as hitting draws, hitting fades and control of the ball,” Mickelson said. “I’m getting close to that level of shotmaking day in and day out.”
Additionally, Mickelson’s trimmed-down body has been swept under the rug. Once ridiculed for his weight, the veteran golfer has been hitting the gym to keep himself ready for this season, revealing he’s in the “best shape I’ve been in a long time.”
Mickelson makes his debut this season at the Saudi International at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club this weekend. Will he be able to make a winning start to the year? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
