If you are a golf enthusiast, then there is no way that you have not heard of John Daly. Although the ‘Wild Thing’ rose to prominence in the early 1990s, his popularity has not faded to this day. The whole golf world elates at hearing his name; what a rise-and-shine personality he has. Yes, the man has earned himself two major championships, but what he has earned more is the love of his fans. His open-heartedness towards life has earned him the most solid fan base in the entire history of golf.
In an interview with The Golf, Daly spoke candidly about the craze he has among younger generations of golfers. Big John has not just one or two selling factors; he is bombarded with talents. The man is on his way to leaving a “big” legacy behind him, just like his heart. John has not even a tiny drop of pretense in him, and maybe that’s what he is loved for. But, contrary to popular belief, Daly sees his popularity among young people differently.

Reason behind the popularity of John Daly among youngsters
The Golf interviewed John Daly last year and asked him about his charm, personality, and the reason for his popularity. The report asked the golf underdog, the reason behind his resonance and popularity with the younger generation of golfers and sports fans. Daly, known for his popularity and humility, gave all the credit to his manager, Chad. He replied, “No idea. I got no idea, I don’t know. I think Chad does a great job with our T-shirt companies with the sayings on it; young kids like it.”
Soon after, he realizes that he has little to do with his own popularity. However, he gave all the credit to his appearance, especially his beard. He said, “I don’t know, maybe because of the beard they think I’m really Santa Claus.” But our dear Santa Claus had to even throw that option off the wind, thanks to Justin Thomas. “… Justin Thomas told me I’m Bad Santa, so that’s out the window. I have no idea,” confused Daly reiterated.

The reporter further asked about the inherited solidarity his fan base across all age groups has. The two times Major champion known for his unfiltered self said, “I think because there’s really no skeletons in my closet. If I screwed up, I’ll honestly say I screwed up, and I think fans like that.” Each one of his fans could resonate with him when he said, “Everybody knows everything about me on this tour — my life, my ex-wives, everything — and it’s out there so there’s not really anything to hide.” For John, it’s his honesty for which he has been cherished all his life.
