The PGA Tour has had several gems in its history that have given countless unforgettable memories to all golf fans. And believe it or not, LIV Golf’s CEO Greg Norman was also one of these top players on the tour during his prime years. So talented that setting records was like an everyday thing for him.
Similarly, another American pro also had a pretty decorated career on the course. And there was a time when he accidentally received something that held great value to the Australian golf star. And when he opened up about his true intentions after receiving the honor, it blew every fan’s mind.

In a recent video from the Golf Subpar podcast, Kelly talked to Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz about an embarrassing incident involving the golf ‘shark’. As per his statements, there was a time when he accidentally received a trophy, and it was not his own. Instead, the PGA Tour accidentally sent him Norman’s “Player of the Year” trophy in 1995! After all, it is very rare for such a huge organization to make such professional blunders.

However, that was not the most shocking part. When asked about his intentions towards keeping the trophy for himself, his response shocked all his fans on the internet. “I totally thought about keeping it,” he said. But despite his intentions to keep it for himself, he chose to give it back to the tour. “I can’t remember if they called me first or I called them first. I’m not positive on that one.”

What was Jerry Kelly’s family’s reaction to the blunder?
Kelly continued to explain what went on after he received the accidental honor instead of Norman. Even though the trophy didn’t originally belong to him, it still made him feel really special. In fact, when he talked to his family about the entire situation, their reaction was similar to how he initially reacted.

“I remember having a conversation with my family going ‘This is kind of cool, this is kind of nice. This’ll look good on the mantle’” he recalled. “Turn it around the other way, nobody sees Greg’s name. Yeah! I was Player of the Year”. Well, only if it was this easy to achieve such a worthy title, players would have been fighting over trophies more than playing quality golf. Notably, Kelly made a wise decision and returned the memento to the Tour. On the contrary, do you think he should have simply kept it for himself? Let us know in the comments section below!
