Phil Mickelson is one of the most revered names in golf, and the lefty received his Hall of Fame induction in 2012. Mickelson has been hitting the headlines for a variety of reasons over the last couple of months, but the most popular is his involvement with the Saudi League. Is the six-time major winner leaving the PGA Tour for the Super League?

Mickelson is outspoken about his interest in the Saudi League and wants to use it as leverage against the PGA Tour. However, with all the recent comments that he made, has Phil put himself in deep water, facing a suspension from the tour?

Can the PGA Tour suspend Phil Mickelson?

Saudi Golf League is been in the spotlight for quite some time now. However, PGA Tours’ stand is upright and has bluntly mentioned if a player is found agreeing to play on the Saudi Golf League will suffer from a temporary suspension and maybe a permanent ban as well. Phil Mickelson is quite vocal in raising his views about the Saudi Golf League. As a result, it can lead him into deep trouble.

Tom Allen, attorney for the PGA Tour spoke about if Phil has already done enough or said enough to sustain a ban from the PGA Tour. He said, “You would take away players, tour sponsors. Sponsors that make the purses what they are. . You’ve made comments before.”

He added, “There’s not much in the way of the tour from suspending Mickelson. The only potential issue would be knowing the other alleged players who paid attorneys to construct the SGL framework and not suspending them, for any potential Mickelson-specific punishment could be seen as discriminatory and open a heck of a lot of trouble for the tour.” Does that mean that Phil alone will not be punished?

A tour spokesperson also replied when asked if Phil is suspended from the PGA Tour. He said, “We don’t plan to comment.

It will be quite interesting to see what happens next in the controversy.

Bryson DeChambeau has been in midst of controversies throughout his career. One of the most famous ones is the Saudi Golf League controversy. Supposedly, the American professional is said to be offered a sum of $135 million to become the face of the Saudi-backed golf league. However, Bryson has denied the allegations.
