Mickelson is one of the most influential players in the golf world. After becoming the highest-paid golfer and leaving Tiger Woods behind, Lefty has made his mark. But in the eyes of the PGA Tour, he is only a player who “betrayed” the tour. Moreover, the PGA Tour has also identified Mickelson as the one responsible for the transition of many golfers to the LIV Golf Invitational Series.

Mickelson, along with 10 other golfers, filed a lawsuit against the PGA Tour regarding his ban from playing PGA events. His complaint clearly mentioned how the former tour has been extending his ban regularly. The complaint mentioned that Mickelson was first suspended from the tour for 2 months. But he applied to be reinstated in June and was denied to participate saying that “Plaintiff Mickelson violated Tour regulations by participating in the LIV Golf London Invitational.” The tour also extended his suspension until March 31, 2023.

The complaint stated that there had been a huge “professional harm, as well as financial, and commercial harm,” to Lefty and that the Tour’s suspension was unlawful. According to Mickelson, he has lost the platform, the money, and the related opportunities that come along with the tour.

PGA Tour Commissioner, Jay Monahan, appeared in front of the media in March. But he didn’t say much about the actions taken against Mickelson. He kept emphasizing the fact that the tour has an old policy of not talking about suspensions of players. But he definitely pointed out that Mickelson had to pay for what he had done. It was for all the players who have or would ever betray the tour.

Many sources suggest that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf should find a way to work together. However, it doesn’t look like either one of the two parties is ready for a merger yet.
