Matt Fitzpatrick emerged as the winner of the 2023 RBC Heritage on Saturday, edging past last year’s winner Jordan Spieth. The Englishman’s win came after an exciting playoff saw Spieth miss two match-winning putts.
Following his win, Fitzpatrick walked home with $3,600,000 in earnings. While many celebrated his thrilling win, saying that he is going to become the “World No. 1” down the road, others disagreed. Golf fans disagree as a new tweet celebrating Matt Fitzpatrick’s success comes to light
World no. 8, Matt Fitzpatrick, has been on a roll recently. The 2022 U.S. Open champion finished at T10 at the 2023 Masters, walking home with $432,000 in earnings. He followed up his excellent outing at Augusta with a sensational performance at the Hilton Head, becoming the 2023 RBC Heritage champion.
His victory came after he beat 2022 champion Jordan Spieth in a three-hole playoff. On Sunday, Fitzpatrick wowed many viewers with his second professional win on American soil. Kyle Porter, a golf writer at CBS Sports, took to Twitter to share that he believed the golfer would become “the No. 1 player in the world at some point.”
What's a "sounds a little crazy out loud, but I'm pretty sure I believe it" golf take you have?
I'll go first. I think Matt Fitzpatrick is going to be the No. 1 player in the world at some point.

However, his tweet set the ball rolling for a big debate on the bird app. Many fans disagreed with the tweet, with one saying that Fitzpatrick wasn’t on “Rahm, Scheffler level.” One opined that Fitzpatrick becoming world no. 1 is a stretch as long as “Jon Rahm & Scottie Scheffler are playing.”
Bold, but I don't see it. Good player but don't see him at Rahm, Scheffler level.

I just…don’t see it.

Well as long as Jon Rahm & Scottie Scheffler are playing they have this IS a crazy take. https://t.co/c325vXEuOJ

Some fans picked other golfers over the new RBC Heritage champion. One Twitter user thinks Jordan Spieth will cement himself as an “all time great” down the line.
Meanwhile, another fan spoke in favor of 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm, sharing that the Spaniard will complete his career grand slam very soon. Another golf viewer believes Fitzpatrick will need to undergo significant “transformation” if he wishes to come out at the top.
Jordan Spieth will win 10+ majors and cement himself as a top 5 all-time great of the game!

I think the bar for what a #1 golfer has changed from the weird post Tiger era. I don’t think Matt will ever win enough to be #1
My crazy take: Rahm will have a grand slam by the 2024 PGA Championship

If that happens, he would have to see a transformation in his approach play that currently sits 64th in the world over the last 12 months.
Cannot be that bad of an iron player and ascend to the top of the food chain.
