On cloud nine after lifting the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Rahm expressed his side of the story and revealed how it could be the opening step for the banishment of LIV players from the illustrious Ryder Cup.

Speaking on the ‘No Laying Up’ podcast after his recent victory, Rahm was forthcoming about the circumstances following Garcia’s birthday. While he expressed his adulation for playing with the Spaniard, the 28-year-old felt the latter’s time was up in the Ryder Cup.

“But yeah, I think with that post, that decision was made already and they just haven’t announced it. Both sides need to make a unanimous decision, right? You can’t have one team allowing LIV and the other one not.”

“I don’t think that the PGA is going to allow LIV players to play but if they decided to do it, I think the European team should open that possibility,” Rahm said.

Young team on the horizon for Team Europe

In the same segment, Rahm focused on the young guns from the continent who could make way for LIV-contracted, senior statesmen. “We have a lot of young players that will have a chance this time in Europe, so I’m hoping it could be a fresh start.”

“We see what the US team did last Ryder Cup with a younger team. Not that we’re going to win 19-9 or whatever it was but you have a fresher start on the team. There’s always a positive in every situation,” he added.

The 2021 U.S. Open winner will be one of the few players on the team who’ll be expected to nurture a young team in this year’s Ryder Cup. The 44th edition of the prestigious tournament will be held at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome. Team USA is the defending champions, securing a dominant 19-9 victory in the 2021 edition.
