Many thoughts might be running through a golfer’s mind. Especially so when an athlete finishes the day at the top of the leaderboard. But wait a minute! Bryson DeChambeau doesn’t seem to agree. At least not for his Friday round at the LIV Golf event in Las Vegas, even though he tied for T1 with Dustin Johnson ahead of the field after two days of play.

The 30-year-old dished out a total of nine birdies and a bogey at the 12th to register a score of 62 (-8) on day 2. However, when asked about the same during a presser following the round, he responded with a strange answer, “It was the weirdest 62 I’ve ever had!”

“It was just weird,” insisted a bothered DeChambeau as he recounted the day’s play during the interview. The one-time major champ was pretty optimistic of even scoring a 57 in the back nine as he went, “I was at 8-under par, and I was like, I could easily go 59, 58. If I play perfect golf, it’s 57.” He even dubbed the “five straight holes” he had left to play as “gettable.”

Then why did he call it weird? Well, ‘The Scientist’ recalled how he felt “a little uncomfortable with the driver” after birdieing the 15th and 16th holes. “I don’t know why,” said the golfer as he continued, “Then just didn’t wedge it close enough and didn’t go my way on that — I lipped out a 30-footer on the last,” before going ahead to call it as “just weird.” As a result, he could only score par for the final two holes.

Nevertheless, the figures, coupled with his first day’s numbers of 3-under 67, did propel him to the top of the scoreboard along with the 4Aces GC skipper. He registered the same with a total of four birdies on the 1st, 10th, 15th, and 17th holes while carding a bogey at the 6th.

Amazing yet concerning for the golfer. If he was able to keep his momentum going, there was even a chance he might have been able to beat his career-lowest score that he was able to card back in 2023.

Recollecting DeChambeau’s record-breaking performance

During the third and final round at The Old White in the LIV Golf event in Greenbrier, the 30-year-old was able to score a 12-under par 58 and rake in a winner’s cut of $4 million. He was able to dish out his lowest-ever score in his career with a total of 13 birdies and a single bogey at the 238-yard par-3 8th hole.
